What We Do

How We Began

Since 2023, the author has intensively researched the flora and fauna of Fort Liberty, previously known as Fort Bragg. Her first introduction to the fort was in the late 1990s when her mother brought her on a vacation to visit friends in Troy and Biscoe. A little girl made big dreams on that trip to return to the land of the pines and the rich red clay. In 2001 she enlisted as an airborne paratrooper in the U.S. Army to be stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. She would eventually commission and retire at the same fort twenty-two years later.

Sometimes we choose our assignments, but often we do not. But for the sake of gratitude, conservation, and well-being, connecting with the nature around us is critical.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

— Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States of America
